Seequent | Delivering Scalable Software Licensing

How Seequent Leveraged 10Duke
on Their Way to a $1 Billion Acquisition

Seequent is a global independent software provider serving the mining, energy, environmental, geothermal, and hydrogeological sectors. Seequent is a leader in subsurface geoscience and modelling software, and its advanced 3D modelling tools are used worldwide for tunnel construction, groundwater management, geothermal exploration, resource estimation, and nuclear fuel storage projects.

Key Business Challenges

Seequent needed a scalable, non-dongle licensing solution to simplify license management and reduce manual processes. They wanted better license compliance tracking, a complete view of end users, and the ability to offer flexible models like pay-per-use. Improving customer experience was key, including easier evaluation, purchase, and use of their software, plus introducing Single Sign-On (SSO) and Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) across products.

Their goal was to streamline processes, enable new licensing models, and deliver unified, secure access across their Leapfrog suite and other applications.

Solution

Seequent adopted 10Duke’s identity-based licensing to expand licensing options, control user access, and offer technical flexibility. The solution allows end users to self-manage licenses and supports a variety of licensing models.

Self-Service Account Management

Launching a new user account system with self-service features like password reset, reducing support calls.

Unified Secure Application Access

Implementing SSO and MFA for secure access to all Leapfrog applications.

Automated Flexible License Provisioning

Automating license provisioning and enabling flexible models such as OnDemand, project-based, and daily licensing.

Real-Time Usage Insights

Capturing real-time usage data to guide product development and new commercial offerings.

The Result

10Duke played a pivotal role in Seequent's accelerated revenue growth, culminating in their acquisition by Bentley Systems for $1.05 billion.

"Since 2016, Seequent have used 10Duke to provide customers with flexible seat licenses, enabling their teams to work more efficiently. This gave us the ability to create new forms of commercial models to unlock revenue."

"10Duke provided important new levels of user insight to better understand our customers when it came to renewal time. The use of this data driven approach has been pivotal in our fast growth rate as a business."

What Do the Engineers Say?

10Duke Enterprise was the only product, in our assessment, that had the flexibility and extensibility to support the existing license models for our existing desktop software and the web based software we were bringing to market. Through a highly extensible design, 10Duke Enterprise can be extended to deliver any authorization and licensing solution you need. 10Duke Enterprise has been able to grow with our business. It was always performant, scaling with our user base.

Hamish Smith, Senior Software Architect, Seequent

"It’s reliable, it’s stable, it’s going to operate 24/7, and it’s also highly configurable. 10Duke have really opened up our business to quickly adapt to the needs of the customers."
