Trimble | Simplifying User Access & Control

How Trimble Boosted User Experience

with SSO & Identity-Based Licensing

Trimble is a global industrial technology company that owns the Tekla brand. Tekla delivers desktop, web, and mobile versions of its applications to tens of thousands of customers worldwide, with a particular focus on BIM (Building Information Modelling) solutions for the construction industry. Its customer base includes consumers, small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs), and enterprise users.

Key Business Challenges

Tekla needed to improve access to its software suite for all customer types, ensuring strict license-based user control. They required a single Identity Provider (IdP) for Single Sign-On and Single Sign-Out across web and desktop apps, plus integration with Microsoft Active Directory and ADFS for enterprise logins. The current licensing system was too rigid for Tekla’s diverse online products. Tekla also wanted a unified customer view for efficient access management, upselling, and real-time CRM and purchase updates.

Solution

Tekla set out to create a unified identity and licensing system with a single IdP for all customer types and platforms, supporting strong SSO and Single Sign-Out. Integration with AD and ADFS was needed for enterprise users. They wanted identity-based licensing for precise access control and real-time updates via e-commerce and CRM integration, aiming for a secure, scalable user experience.
